Dr. Skyler Jones, PT, DPT
Skyler is a physical therapist with 5+ clinical years of experience. After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a B.S.N. in Nutritional Sciences, she went on to obtain her doctorate in physical therapy from Langston University. She has treated patients across the lifespan in numerous settings from outpatient clinics to home health. She never expected to become a pediatric physical therapist that specializes in treating tethered oral tissues until…
She became a new mom, when her son Jase was born, and soon noticed when he cried his tongue did not move. That was the first sign, but after being told in the hospital that his latch looked perfect, she didn’t think it could be an actual tongue tie. After about two months of painful breastfeeding (thought it was normal), Jase became very frustrated anytime he would nurse, which resulted in a crying mom and baby. She sought out a lactation specialist, who confirmed her suspicion, and referred Jase to a pediatric dentist for a release.
It was not an immediate fix to the nursing difficulties. Especially, since Jase had been compensating for nearly 2 months at this point. He had to learn how to use his tongue correctly. Luckily, with an extensive background in movement, and the human body, Skyler was prepared to properly perform the frequent tongue stretches, identify and treat other tight musculature, work on tongue range of motion and strengthening exercises, and provide bodywork and soft tissue mobilization techniques to relax baby and decrease muscle tension.
Skyler is a highly-trained physical therapist, and has furthered her knowledge by successfully completing courses related to infant tongue ties and bodywork.
